Difference Between Jasmine Rice and White Rice (With Table)

There are varieties of rice if you look right from white rice to basmati to jasmine rice. One can have plenty of options whenever they are in a restaurant. Rice is one of the common foods that are mostly consumed in West Bengal. It may be due to the extreme weather conditions that people of West Bengal consume rice in the afternoon and most of the time even at dinner.

Rice is not only consumed with dal and with  curry because there are several other fast food items made up with rice like fried rice, schezwan rice, and other such kinds of stuff. Now, due to their varieties, not all types of rice can be made into fried rice because they have a different aromas, textures, and other kinds of stuff that will not be suitable for getting the perfect taste.

Similarly, jasmine rice and white rice are two varieties of rice where white rice is the common one but jasmine rice is rice that has an aroma that primarily grows in parts of Southeast Asia. The difference between jasmine rice and white rice is that white rice is the normal variant of rice and does not have an aroma whereas jasmine rice has a natural aroma in it. What is Jasmine Rice?

Jasmine rice is nothing but a variant of rice that is a long-grained one. Jasmine rice is not like normal white rice because jasmine rice has an aroma naturally present in it. The texture of jasmine rice is the sticky type and they are quite fluffy and this is the reason why they are excellent for cooking.

Jasmine rice and white rice might have almost similar nutritional value but the calories provided by jasmine rice are far more than white rice. An uncooked 1/3 cup of jasmine rice will contain about 180 calories which are more than white rice.

It is common to make out that jasmine rice is not recommended for people who want to lose weight because they have the content of fat. However, since they are a great source of calories and energy people who are into physical fitness can be consumed a limited portion.

But when comparing with white rice jasmine rice has more fiber content and also comes with calcium, iron, and potassium. As mentioned earlier that rice has different varieties not only by the looks but also from their shape and color.

Jasmine rice is not only in white colour but also it can be brown, red, purple, or black. You can just imagine how many types or varieties of rice are there in the world. Jasmine rice is sticky in nature and they have the best cooking quality because they are quite fluffy.

Now, the question might arise that which rice is the healthier one? Well, it is clear that jasmine rice is a much healthier choice than white rice. White rice can have several effects on your body and can lead to diabetes. The content of fiber in jasmine rice will help your body to slow down the absorption of sugar and therefore there will be less chance that you get diabetes.

What is White Rice?

White rice is the most common form of rice that is processed. During the processing of white rice, many nutritional values are lost like husk and bran. Due to their processing white rice’s flavour and texture are altered. This is the reason why white rice can be stored for a long period of time without being damaged.

Now, white rice can be also of many types like basmati, Arborio, jasmine, and originario. All these types of white rice have the same nutritional value. The grain of white rice can be short, medium or even long like basmati rice have.

Most commonly the colour of white rice is always white unlike, jasmine rice that comes in various types of colour. This is the one of the reasons white rice can be distinguished easily. But, unlike jasmine rice white rice does not have an aroma or a distinct smell because they lack any kind of natural smell.

  6. White rice is not recommended for people suffering from diabetes because their fiber content is low.

Both these rice have almost same nutritional value leaving only some notable differences like content of fiber. White rice can also be rich in nutrition but because white rice is processed they lose most nutritional value. Jasmine rice, on the other hand, has an excellent cooking quality and this is the reason why most chefs prefer using jasmine rice while cooking.
