Difference Between Ocean and Beach

Oceans are the largest and most significant bodies of water on the entire planet, while beaches are just landforms. Compared to a beach, there are more numbers of plants and animals living in the ocean.

Oceans have a fixed blue colour texture, while one of the beaches depends on the type of rock that is washed towards the shore. There are majorly five oceans on the planet -the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Southern Ocean, and the arctic ocean.

Ocean vs Beach

Oceans are massive water bodies that cover most part of the planet, while beaches are just a part of that water body. Oceans are immense. They are the only one that continues the stretch of water to the entire Earth. A beach is where water bodies, including the ocean, end, and the drylands, begin.

Oceans are the most significant water bodies on the entire planet, while Beaches, on the other hand, are just landforms. The size of the ocean is so big that it covers about 70% of the Earth’s rea.

They support a massive amount of marine life because of their vast size. The ocean is one large water body that is further divided into five major parts: the pacific ocean, Indian ocean, arctic ocean, southern ocean, and Atlantic ocean.

Beaches are landforms formed with part of the shorelines of several water bodies. Beaches are comparatively smaller and cover a lot lesser area as they are part of an ocean and support competitively inferior marine life.

There is no particular place or region for beaches. They are found in different areas with different features all around the world.

What is Ocean?

Oceans are the largest and immensely sized water bodies on the planet. They are so huge that they cover about 70% of the Earth’s area.

To make it more understandable, they are divided into five smaller oceanic bodies named- the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, southern and arctic oceans, but actually, Earth has one colossal water body.

The names are just given for territorial use. Now, all five individual oceans are further divided into seas with smaller areas.

Apart from being so immense in the area, oceans are also very deep, more than 3000 meters deep on average. And because of the salt in the oceans, they are also very saline.

Because of their immense size and deepness, many marine plants and animals live under these deep seas.

Oceans play a vital role in the biosphere, not just being vast in their size. They help in regulating the change in climate and even patterns of the wind. And most importantly, they are the ones that influence the rainfall that is experienced by the entire planet.

What is Beach?

Beaches are narrow strips of land separating a body of water from the area inland. Materials like- sand, pebbles, rocks, and seashells cover the area around the beach.

A beach is where water bodies, including the ocean, end, and the drylands, begin.

Beaches are landforms. They form a piece of shoreline or different water bodies like lakes, seas, or even oceans. The colour of the beach depends on the type of rock that is washed towards the shore.

Being a landform, beaches have different particles of different rock types, such as pebbles, gravels, cobblestones, and sand. Now, that action of the waves of the seas causes a change in the sediments and the difference in the coastal areas.

Thus, this says that the beaches are either formed or even destroyed by the waves of those seas.

In addition to all these, beaches have now become a hot spot through the years for recreation.

Main Differences Between Ocean and Beach

  1. The main difference between the ocean and the beach is that the ocean is basically a vast body made of salt water, and that body covers almost an area equal to the three-fourth part of the Earth. At the same time, the beach is only a part of the ocean that is partially enclosed by land.
  2. Oceans are whole water bodies, while beaches cover a partial land area too.
  3. Oceans are slightly blue, while the colour of a beach depends on the rock that is washed on their shore.
  4. Oceans are divided into five major parts, but beam number and in different regions.
  5. Oceans support several marine life because of their size and depth, while beaches do not have much marine life.
