Difference Between Jig and Fixture

We use different words for denoting the things. But, sometimes we got confused.

The term Jig and Fixture have similar meanings, but they are used in a different ways.

Both are tools used for distinct purposes.

Jig vs Fixture

The main difference between Jig and Fixture is their usage. To denote the tools to control locations, the term Jig is used. To help things to get the correct structure, the term fixture is used. The Jig will give instructions or guide the cutting tool, but the fixture will not give instructions or guide the cutting tool. The Jig will always be combined with the machine tool to give better performance. The fixture is not attached to the machine tool.
