Celebrating the achievements and contributions of selfless people to the society is followed in many countries.

People like Soldiers and Workers of any sort are considered to be the driving force of a nation. Soldiers protect their mother land and it’s people at any cost.

Their selfless sacrifices and bravery has saved the lives of many people. On the other hand workers of a country helps in maintaining the economic status of the country.

Labor Day and Veterans Day are celebrated to pay tribute to the service provided by these selfless warriors.

Labor Day vs Veterans Day

The main difference between Labor Day and Veterans Day is that, Labor Day is observed to celebrate the achievements of American workers and their contribution to the society on the other hand, Veterans Day is celebrated to pay tribute to the soldiers who have served in the Army.

Labor Day vs Veterans Day

Labor Day is observed on the first Monday of September in the United States of America and Canada.

In some countries Labor Day is celebrated on the International workers day which is on the first of May. Labor Day is announced as a public holiday in the late nineteenth century.

The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated in New York City on September 5, 1882.

Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11. Since, November 11 is the day World War I ended, this date was fixed as the Veterans Day to honor the Soldiers who served in the US Army during World War I. President Woodrow Wilson first issued the celebration of Armistice day which was later termed as Veterans Day on November 11, 1919 to pay homage to the fallen Soldiers of World War I.

What is Labor Day ?

Industrial revolution was at its peak during the late 1800s in the US. People worked 12 hours a day without break and proper basic facilities.

Child labor was also common during that time. Labor unions first appeared during this time and they demanded a change in working hours and salary.

As a result strikes, riots and rallies were held in several places of the country.

On September 5, 1882 thousands of workers took a day off and marched from City Hall to Union Square in New York. This was the first Labor Day parade.

To bring situation back to normal and to negotiate with the workers many states recognized National Labor Day.

The government of America passed a legislation in 1894 making Labor Day a National holiday.

Labor Day is still Celebrated in the USA. Labor Day parades and speeches are held at important cities.

Since, Labor Day falls on September it indicates the end of summer and the beginning of Fall so, it is now considered the last celebration of the summer break before returning to school.

Music festivals and Parades are common during Labor Day. Because of Labor Day’s observance during Summer, Going on a Labor Day Picnic with family is a kind of Labor Day celebration.

Parties are also held at some places. The most famous Labor Day party is the barbeque party. This is celebrated by People gathering at a common spot and cooking different dishes including barbeque.

What is Veterans Day?

Veterans Day is celebrated to honor the living as well as fallen Soldiers. The name of this holiday was changed from Armistice Day to Veterans Day by President Dwight D Eisenhower in 1954.

Besides the United States, Veterans Day is also observed by the UK, France, Canada and Australia.

Veterans Day is the time for the nation to stand united for their Veterans and to pay them respect.

Veterans are considered role models by many youngsters for their patriotism and willingness to serve and sacrifice for their country. Veterans Day is a national holiday.

Veterans Day is celebrated by organizing various events. Veterans Day parades are held in which school students and youngsters take part to show their respect to Veterans.

People meet Veterans and learn from them their experience in the military. Postal cards and e-cards are sent to Veterans to honor them.

People volunteer to help veteran organizations. Some people invite Veterans they know for a special Dinner or lunch. Military themed gifts are also given to Veterans.

Veterans Day is considered as a chance to think about the importance of peace and the issues faced by Veterans during War and their sacrifices.

It serves as an opportunity for people to realize how important is the role played by soldiers.

Main Differences Between Labor Day and Veterans Day

Both Labor and Veterans are equally important to a nation. A holiday to honor these crucial people is undoubtedly a necessary thing.

Though Labor Day was designated to honor the Workers of labour unions, every worker striving hard to contribute to his nation and supporting his family deserves to be celebrated.

Hence, now Labor Day is more of a relaxing time for people working hard. It is an occasion for them to spend quality time with family and chill.

Veterans comes from every part of the country. They are fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, neighbors, friends etc.

Despite their emotions they choose to serve the country. Their sacrifices strengthen the nation and keep it safe. It is very important to honor and celebrate their bravery.
