What is ASUS Zenbook?
Asus Zenbook case is very sturdy: it is well assembled, and the materials are quality in look and feel. The design is made of aluminum, which, due to the peculiarities of the coating, in practice turned out to be very dirty. The notebook can be opened with one hand, and the lid is fixed with magnets when closing. The hinges normally hold the screen in a given position and allow it to open all 360 degrees, but let the lid wobble a little when typing. The power key has a built-in fingerprint scanner.
The set of ports is limited due to the unusual shape of the ventilation grilles: three horizontal slits on each side greatly push the connectors to the front of the case. A total of six ports are installed here. Instead of Thunderbolt 4, the Asus Zenbook Flip 14 has two USB 3.2 Gen2 ports with Power Delivery and DisplayPort. The ports are separated by enough distance so that connected devices don’t interfere with each other. There is no Kensington lock slot and no Ethernet connector.
The keyboard is pleasant and comfortable, the layout is well thought out. The keys are characterized by a short stroke with a small backlash. The distance between the keys is sufficient for comfortable typing, and the clicking sound is quiet. The keyboard frame doesn’t sag during typing, and the backlighting is implemented correctly: even the additional symbols on the keys are lit.
Asus Zenbook has a built-in TPM module. There is also a fingerprint scanner, which is built into the power key. In addition to the laptop, the package includes a power adapter and documentation. There is no stylus. A Torx T6 screwdriver is needed to access the internal components of the Zenbook. The bottom cover is fixed very tight, so remove it with care. Inside, the user can access the cooling system, battery, SSD, and Wi-Fi adapter.

What is MacBook Pro?
The MacBook Pro Mini-LED display provides over 1500 nits of brightness when displaying HDR content, but is limited to 500 units in normal mode (that is, most of the time). This limitation is frustrating because extra brightness never hurts. Luckily, there is now an app called Vivid that allows you to manually set the maximum brightness for all content.
Apple releases the MacBook Pro based on different versions of the M1 processor. The base model of the chip contains 8 processor cores and 10-core graphics. The number of processor cores in the chips is slightly different, but the main differences are tied to the graphics: 14/16 cores in the M1 Pro and 24/32 in the M1 Max. The volume of the built-in loudspeakers was measured while playing an audio file with pink noise. The maximum volume was 77.1 dBA. Among the laptops tested at the time of this writing (median 74.4 dBA), this laptop is louder than the average laptop in terms of volume.
From a subjective point of view, the MacBook Pro based on the M1 Max is very fast. The system responds instantly to user actions and even demands applications like Adobe Photoshop or Premiere Pro launch without delay. The emulation of applications via Rosetta 2 performs well, but they are no longer as fast as the native ones.
