Sharing is caring!

The world today is a very competitive world. With the hectic and busy schedules of people that only seem to do nothing but continuously push forward, we might have come across the term’s “progress” and “development”.

While the terms “progress” and “development” seem to originate on the same ground, they have few differences in details.

Key Takeaways

  1. Progress refers to the improvement or advancement in a specific area or field, while development implies overall growth and expansion.
  2. Progress can be measured through quantitative metrics, whereas development encompasses quantitative and qualitative aspects.
  3. Development focuses on long-term, sustainable growth, while progress can be short-term and incremental.

Progress vs Development

Progress is the improvement of a particular area or aspect, such as social values, technology, or knowledge. Development is a broader phrase that covers both progress and the process of social and economic growth, which is frequently gauged by advancements in health, education, and income levels.

Progress vs Development

The term “progress” defines how much a particular person has moved towards his or her goal. “Move” in this context means a forward movement or a vertical movement.

Progress is a narrower concept and deals with the current status of the individual, i.e., how much the individual has accomplished.

Progress in regards to nouns can be described as the process of an individual moving forward towards his or her goal. Progress can also open up various branches that an individual can take to arrive at a stated goal.

The term “development” can be defined as the end result of progress. Development is a broader concept that involves progress.

However, development is limited in scope and is concerned with the process of an individual and the result derived at the end of the process.

Development is a straight line and is not concerned with what or in which direction the individual is moving. Development is more focused on the techniques to be adopted and how to use them appropriately.

Development, in this regard, can be defined as the overall evolution of a place, human being, country, etc.

The term “development” can be defined as “the final result of progress.” The term “development” is a broader concept in the sense that it includes both progress and growth.

Development is said to have a limited scope and is centred on an individual’s process and the result obtained at the end of it. Development is a straight line that is indifferent about what an individual is doing or where they are going.
