But, Valentine’s Day, in particular, has a rich history.
There are several legends regarding why Valentine’s day is celebrated. Apart from the famous story of St. Valentine who used to marry couples in love in secrecy so that the husband is not sent to war, there are other stories as well.
For example, some people believe that there were many Christian martyrs named Valentine, and one priest with the same name was martyred in 270 CE and that’s why the day is celebrated.
Some people also believe that the Valentine in the stories is the same person.
Valentine’s day became very popular during the 1500s and the cards for the same purpose started getting printed in the late 1700s. Cupids and birds are some of the common symbols that are found in these cards.
Roses are one of the most common Valentine’s Day gifts.
