Both Seagate and Crucial are famous for the solid-state drives they launch. Seagate Barracuda, however, back in the day, launched hard drives, which were bulky and costly.

These slow hard drives were then replaced by solid-state drives (SSDs) that were actually a lot faster and less bulky than the traditional external hard drives. Slowly, these SSDs occupied the market and replaced hard disks.

Key Takeaways

  1. Seagate Barracuda offers higher storage capacity, up to 5TB, whereas Crucial BX500 provides up to 2TB.
  2. Crucial BX500 boasts better energy efficiency, consuming less power than Seagate Barracuda.
  3. Both drives exhibit comparable performance, but Seagate Barracuda has a faster spindle speed at 7200 RPM.

Seagate Barracuda vs Crucial bx500

Seagate Barracuda is a popular solid-state drive (SSD) that is reliable for gaming. It has a 7500 spinning speed per minute. This SSD has a warranty of up to 5 years. Crucial bx500 is an SSD with 540MB per second speed for read and write operations. It comes with different storage capacities.

Seagate Barracuda vs Crucial

Seagate Barracuda is a series of popular SSDs by Seagate manufacturers. The company has launched many types of solid barracuda drives over the years. These drives come in the form of ATA and SATA models.

The first drives of the Barracuda series were launched back in 1993. These included four different types of drives, which became the first-ever hard drives with a spinning speed of 7200 revolutions every minute.

Crucial BX500 is pocket-friendly and is lighter in comparison to other traditional solid drives. It comes in four capacities, which include 120. 240, 480, and 960 GBs.

The drive, however, has fewer features than the other drives from crucial like MX500. However, these fewer features make the drive able to be operated by anyone without the need for a professional degree in storage solutions.

What is Seagate Barracuda?

Seagate Barracuda is a series of types of hard drives. These are available in different sizes, capacities, and speeds. These became popular as the first-ever drive with 7500 spinning speed per minute was launched by Seagate in the Barracuda series.

The first drive of the Barracuda series was launched in 1993 with a capacity of 1.7 GB and with a size of 3.5 inches. The Barracuda ATA was launched in 1999 and was available in 6.8 GB and 28.2 GB with a 512 KB.

A new drive has been launched almost every year from the Barracuda range since 1993. These include barracuda 1 and barracuda 2, barracuda 180, barracuda 36, barracuda ATA (1,2,3,4) etc.

Some of the news launches from this series include Barracuda Pro with 2 to 14v TB capacity and Barracuda 16 generations with storage of 3 to 8 TB.

Both of these are slightly towards the expensive side than the older inexpensive ones. However, in the long run, they could work quite well. Also, Barracuda’s drive has been quite popular among gamers.

Its 2 TB and 3TB hard drives are one of the best for gamers. Gamers with both media files and a huge gaming library can choose the 3 TB drive, but the 2TB works on average for both storage speed and is pocket-friendly.

What is Crucial bx500?

Crucial Bx500 has a speed of 540 to 500 MB/sec for almost both read and write operations. The drive has an overall good performance for reading as well as writing. The fact that it is cheaper than other SSDs in the market cannot be ignored.

However, if you are willing to invest a little more, the MX500 model itself can give you better performance overall. It also has many other features than the crucial bx500. One could easily find better SSDs in the market for a comparable price.

This drive is a 2.5-inch SATA drive. Crucial launched bx500 so as to replace or as a better version of BX300. The BX500 was a good choice back in times when not many drives with such features were available.

But today, the market is flooded with better options at a lower price when compared to the crucial BX500.

Crucial has also released a 960 GB capacity drive in the same BX500 model on demand for a higher capacity drive in the market. For gaming, the BX500 may not be the best choice because it has a slow load speed time. The 240 and 460GB models are better than the common HDD ones but not enough for huge game library storage.

Main Differences Between Seagate Barracuda and Crucial bx500

  1. Segregate barracuda is a series of drives from segregate, whereas crucial bx500 is a single drive.
  2. Segregate barracuda has different models, whereas Bx500 can be available in different storage capacities.
  3. Segregate barracuda has more storage capacity models than crucial Bx500.
  4. Many models of barracuda are more expensive than the crucial Bx500.
  5. Barracuda drives are ideal for gaming than crucial Bx500.
