Users could update the maps, and the data was transmitted to all devices among other users, which made its maps a live network and showed real-time conditions.
Emergency Services Shortcut is an additional feature in the XXL model. Its screen is an LCD-type display of 5 Inches having 430×320 pixels with a 3-hour battery backup and 1 GB of internal storage.
It kept everything good that the XL model did but introduced other things like a bigger and better screen, improved speech output for voice instructions and also introduced live traffic and road change updates.
Although the TomTom XXL has been taken off the market and cannot be sold legally anymore, the company has promised lifetime map updates and excellent support through their website.
The TomTom XXL was heavier and much more expensive than its competitors, making its ancestors’ appeal disappear, and soon these devices practically became non-existent.
Main Differences Between TomTom XL and TomTom XXL
- The TomTom XL has a smaller screen and does not have voice commands compared to the TomTom XXL which has these features.
- The TomTom XXL was around 40-50% more expensive than the TomTom XL, making its sales much less than TomTom XL and allowing competitors to outperform it.
- The TomTom XL receives no more updates whereas the TomTom XXL still receives map updates.
- The TomTom XXL is much heavier than the TomTom XL coming in at around 9 oz as compared to the latter’s 6.5 oz.
- Emegency Shortcuts Service is only available on the TomTom XXL and not on the TomTom XL.
