What is Zion National Park?

The Zion National Park is located in the town of Springdale in the southwestern part of Utah in Washington. It is a national park where several plant and animal species reside and is one of the most renowned national parks in the United States of America.

About 8000 years ago, small family groups of Native Americans started to settle down in this area and thus began the onset of human habitation in its vicinity. After that, various tribal groups started to settle in this area. The Zion Canyon is one of the prominent features of this national park. It was established on 19 November 1919. Orderville is the nearest city to its east, and Springdale is the nearest town to its south.

Various animals that are found in the Yosemite National Park include American black bear, Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep, mule deer, bobcat, coyote, Yosemite toad, Mountain lion etc. There are other animal species too. However, it is mostly known for its clear streams, mountains, meadows, lakes, waterfalls, granite cliffs etc.

Granite rocks and remnants of older rocks are a part of the geology of the Yosemite National Park. The word “Yosemite” means “killer” in Miwok, and it is named after that. It refers to a tribe that was discarded from that area by the Mariposa Battalion. However, the indigenous people that previously resided in that area used to call it “Ahwahnee”, which means “big mouth”.

Various well-known and magnificent features and views that are present in the Yosemite National Park are responsible for a large number of visitors. Several activities, including nature walks, skywatching, stargazing, rafting, tours, art classes, rock climbing classes, mule and horseback rides etc., are carried out by the National Park Service.
