Cannon is a Japanese company having its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. It specialises in a lot of things like industrial products like cameras, lenses, printers etc.

Cannon originated in the year 1933 by Takeshi Mitarai. Cannon has been manufacturing digital cameras since 1984.

The first one was RC-701. Canon 40D and Canon 50D are two of the famous camera variants of Canon.

Key Takeaways

  1. Canon 40D is a 10.1-megapixel camera, while Canon 50D is a 15.1-megapixel camera.
  2. Canon 50D has a faster continuous shooting speed of 6.3 frames per second, while Canon 40D has a continuous shooting speed of 6.5 frames per second.
  3. Canon 50D has a higher resolution LCD screen, while Canon 40D has a smaller LCD screen.

Canon 40D vs Canon 50D

Canon 40d is a DSLR camera with 10.1 megapixels resolution, with high quality images and production. Canon 50 d is a canon’s DSLR camera with 15.1 megapixels picture resolution and state of art performance and compatibility.

Canon 40D vs Canon 50D

Canon 40D is a digital single-lens camera of 10.1 megapixels. It is a semi-professional reflex camera that was launched in the year 2007. It replaced the camera canon 30d, and it was preceded by Canon 50D.

This camera was better than its previous version because of the change in the high-resolution sensor, i.e., from 8.2 megapixels to 10.1. It also had better noise control than canon 30d.

Its memory power was also stored so that it could take a lot of pictures in a frame per second.

Canon 50D is a part of the EOS series. It succeeded Canon 40D and was preceded by canon 60D.this camera was launched in the year 2008. Its characteristics and features are very similar to canon 40d.

But Canon 50D has a higher resolution, i.e. 15.1 megapixels. Thus it is better than canon 40d for shooting purposes.

It also has a Live View mode, and the noise of the shutter in it is very much reduced than the previous versions.

It could change ISO and white balance, a pop-up flash unit, and an LCD screen of 3.0 inches which was less in Canon 30 d, i.e. only 2.5 inches. It also has a tough inner material made up of magnesium alloy.

One of the newest features that canon introduced in canon 40d was Liveview. This feature allowed photographers to make their LCD screen a viewfinder.

The shutter noise of the camera was made very little in this version.

It consists of a DIGIC III processor, Wide 9-point AF, built-in flash, selectable AF and metering modes, ISO 100-1600 custom function, EOS integrated cleaning system etc. Its lens is interchangeable.

The storage media of Canon 40D is Compact Flash (Type I or Type II) and a Microdrive of up to 32GB.

It has various focus modes, including AI Servo, AI-Focus, One-shot, and Manual. Canon 40d also had a new RAW format which was less in 30D, i.e., a 14-bit processor.

It had a large memory so that pictures could be taken continuously without buffering. Frames per second were also increased from 5 to 6.5.

Canon Wireless File Transmitter can be used, and a new sensor cleaning system was introduced.

What is Canon 50D?

Canon 50D was released in the year 2008. It succeeded Canon 40D. The LCD screen size of canon 50d was similar to 40D, but it had a higher resolution than any of the previous versions released.

50D is the last version to be having a compact disk or memory drive for memory storage. Because after that, all the versions after 50D doesn’t have it.

It had a higher pixel count, i.e., 15.1 and higher resolutions for shooting.

Shutter noise is reduced in 50D. It has a LiveView, just like 40d. Improvements in 50d include ISO standard mode from 1600 to 3200, which can also be increased to 12800.

The burst rate of 50D is almost similar but a little less than 40d, i.e., 6.3. Its processor is very good and uses DIGIC 4 image processor.

Its processor is fast, improved colour rendition delivers responsive operation, and has near-instant start-up time.

The detailing of images in 50d is very clear than in previous LCDs. It also had two auto-focus modes, one in HDMI port and the other in LiveView mode.

Its APS-C size sensor has 5 more megapixels than 40D. In 50D, canon eliminated the gap between photosensors and microsensors. In 2013, magic Lantern video support was developed in 50D.

Its weight is 790 grams. It has an interface of USB 2.0. File Formats supported in 50D are raw, sRAW1, JPEG, and sRAW2.
