What is Google Meet?

Google Meet is a communication platform which Google develops. It was formerly called Hangouts Meet. The video communication service was launched on 9th March 2017 by Google.

Google Meet can work on various platforms like iOS, Android, and even web services. The communication software has a license freemium kind.

Initially, Google Meet could allow video conferencing for up to 30 participants only. It was an enterprise-friendly version of Hangouts.

When Hangouts Meet was updated as Google Meet, various original Hangouts features were removed, like viewing attendees and chatting simultaneously. The number of video feeds at a time was also minimized to 8.

Google Meet saw a steep rise in usage and the daily number of users. This considerable rise and popularity of Google Meet made it suspend its usual 60-minute limit for the accounts which were unpaid earlier.

The video call resolutions in Google Meet are up to 720p, for two-way and multi-way calls. The platform also provides call encryption between all the users.

Google Meet provides flexibility to the users as they can join the meeting through Android, web browser, or even iOS apps. The communication platform has active noise-cancelling audio filters and even low-light modes for videos.

Other features like Google Calendar or Google Contacts can be integrated with one click during the meeting calls. It also allows the participants to call into a meeting using a dial-in number for users in the US.
